Using serrano peppers grown in the Bronx’s community gardens, the condiment “is a result of teamwork between the students and families that tend to the plants, a Bronx-born chef, non-profit GrowNYC and social business Small Axe Peppers.”Sales of the sauce support the gardens, and the company is also donating a majority of its profits to programs that work with low-income communities in the Bronx and throughout the city. The team says they’re changing the meaning of “the Bronx is burning” from negative to positive.
