Pure Poison is the sauce that launched the Poison Pepper Company — what started as a homemade recipe in St. Petersburg, Florida won 1st Place at the 1999 Hot Sauce International Amateur Competition, then took 1st Place in the Habanero Division at the 2000 Scovie Awards (and 2nd Place overall). Six ingredients: habaneros providing fruity Caribbean heat, red wine vinegar adding a deeper, more complex acidity than standard distilled vinegar, Florida orange juice concentrate adding tropical sweetness and citrus brightness, garlic for savoury depth, garlic salt for seasoning, and a touch of capsaicin extract to push the heat to genuinely extreme territory.
