Char Man Brand started as a finishing sauce for sushi at creator Chris Sutton’s family seafood restaurant in Ojai, California, before growing into its own small-batch operation in Ventura — and the Original remains the sauce that started it all. Fire-roasted habanero and guero chiles provide a smooth, smoky heat, balanced by lemon juice and carrots for citrus brightness and natural sweetness. 1st Place winner, Medium Hot Sauce category, 2017 Scovie Awards.

Works well as an alternative to steak sauce, or stirred into tartar sauce or BBQ sauce for extra heat.

Char Man Brand sauces, brainchild of Chris Sutton, were originally made for the Sutton's family seafood restaurant, Sea Fresh, in Ojai, California. As they started gaining a following and selling more and more sauce, they outgrew using the restaurant's kitchen and built out their own commercial kitchen to bottle the sauces. Char Man is a legend in Ventura County, whether fact or fiction is yet to be determined but the story goes that there was a wildfire in the Ojai Valley where a man died and now if you drive onto a bridge in the county park and get out of your car the Char-man will attack, possibly trying to tear off your skin to take for his own. All of Char Man Brand sauces are made in small batches, using quality ingredients, and hand selected fresh peppers.

I bought four sauces and this one is my favourite. Nice heat and a very rounded and tasty flavour.

Wow, this was way hotter than I expected. It’s delicious though but probably a bit above the heat level for a sauce I’d eat everyday. If like the hotter ones though, this is super tasty!
